Antiquities of Ireland

by Edward Ledwich, L. L. D.

Edward Ledwich (1739-1823) was the vicar of Aghaboe, and one of an emerging group of Antiquarians writing in the late 18th century.

This work was first published in 1790, with a second revised addition in 1804, but he also contributed letters on the Irish harp published in Joseph Cooper Walker's The Historical Memoirs of the Irish Bards.

Although Ledwich was the main author of "The Antiquities of Ireland", it should be noted that some of the work relating to Ancient Irish Music and Instruments was written by his friend William Beauford (1735-1819). Also that the drawings of the harps found in this volume are poor copies from Walker.
